Event rules

General rules

  1. The exhibition grounds are private property. The owner is Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, Messeplatz, Stockumer Kirchstraße 61, 40474 Düsseldorf, tel. +49 211 4560-01. It exercises domiciliary rights alongside the respective organizer.
  2. Participants may only enter the premises, including the buildings (with the exception of the administration building), with a valid admission ticket. They may only remain on the premises for the times and in the buildings specified on the admission ticket. Exhibition stands may only be entered under the supervision of stand personnel.
  3. It is prohibited to bring alcohol, drugs, and potentially dangerous items onto the premises.
  4. Exceptions to the alcohol ban are the separate 18+ area and the J-Rave: there, the consumption of alcohol served there is permitted in moderation - however, alcohol from other sources remains prohibited there as well. In addition, open beverages purchased there may not be taken out of the respective area.
  5. Persons under the influence of excessive alcohol or intoxicating substances will be expelled from the premises.
  6. Smoking is prohibited in the buildings.
  7. Smoking is prohibited in all catering facilities. Smoking may also be prohibited in other individual rooms. Please observe the relevant notices. In the interests of protecting non-smokers, we kindly ask you not to smoke in any of the halls or rooms and to use the designated smoking areas at the hall entrances.
  8. The facilities open to visitors must be used with care and consideration. Visitors are not permitted to enter or operate any other facilities or equipment.
  9. By entering DoKomi, you agree that photos or videos of you may be used by the organizer to present impressions of the event.
  10. Vehicles may only be driven on the exhibition grounds with special permission. The use of vehicles inside buildings is not permitted. This also includes scooters, skateboards, e-scooters, etc.
  11. For security reasons, bags and similar containers and clothing such as coats, jackets, and capes may be checked for their contents. If bags or other means of transport brought along are considered too large to be taken onto the premises, the organizer has the right to demand that they be handed in at one of the cloakrooms, which are subject to a fee. This is to avoid obstructing other visitors.
  12. Weapons may not be brought onto the premises. This also applies to weapon-like substances such as pepper spray and other irritant gases. Further information can be found in the DoKomi weapons regulations.
  13. Dogs and other animals are not permitted on the premises. Certified service dogs are exempt from this rule.
  14. Event visitors must leave the event and the premises at the end of opening hours.
  15. For safety reasons, the trade fair company may order the closure of rooms or buildings and their evacuation. Persons present in these areas must comply with the instructions and proceed to the designated assembly points outside.
  16. The instructions of the security personnel must be followed.
  17. The distribution of flyers and advertising, the sale of goods, and filming for commercial purposes are only permitted after consultation with the responsible organizers.
  18. Lost property must be handed in at the information desk or at the entrance/exit. It can be collected for six months (info@dokomi.de).
  19. Escape and rescue routes must be kept clear. Stairwells are not benches.
  20. Cosplay costumes must not be too revealing, i.e., breasts, private parts, and buttocks must be sufficiently covered.

Age rules

  • Children up to and including the age of 8 are admitted free of charge. Proof of age must be presented upon request.
  • The evening events (Cosplay ball, J-Rave, Akuma no Mori) are only open to visitors of legal age.
  • A valid ID is required throughout the premises. Staff reserve the right to check ID if they have reason to suspect that someone is underage.

Rules for cosplay weapons / props

General Rules Regarding Weapons

  • Anyone carrying weapons, imitation weapons, sports equipment, or similar items does so at their own risk.
  • Show fights are prohibited, as imitators could injure themselves with unsuitable equipment or accidents could occur at the event. In the event of non-compliance, we reserve the right to expel those involved from the event.
  • We reserve the right to insist on the surrender of weapons, even if they are actually permitted, if we deem them unsuitable for carrying on the premises.

Permitted weapons

  • In principle, all types of items are permitted unless they are listed in the following section on prohibited weapons.

Prohibited weapons

Weapons prohibited at DoKomi include, but are not limited to:

  • Throwing stars or nunchucks in any form or design, regardless of material and function.
  • Spring knives, switchblades, and butterfly knives.
  • Steel rods, blackjacks, or brass knuckles.
  • Cutting or thrusting weapons whose external appearance simulates a normal everyday object.
  • Firearms such as paintball and air guns.
  • Real firearms and ammunition.
  • Pyrotechnic ammunition and explosive devices.
  • Sharpened or pointed cutting or thrusting weapons.
  • Imitation weapons are generally prohibited

Imitation weapons are firearms, replicas of firearms, and firearms that have been rendered unusable, which, based on their external form, give the overall impression of being firearms and do not use hot gases to propel projectiles.
  • All weapons and cosplay props that are longer than 2 meters are prohibited.

In general, the German Weapons Act and the individual regulations contained therein apply. A complete list can be found on the following website: https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/waffg_2002/anlage_2.html

General rules for cutting and thrusting weapons (unless they fall under the rules in the sub-section "Prohibited weapons" or are weapons listed under "Permitted weapons")

  • Cutting and thrusting weapons must be blunted.

Anyone carrying sharpened or pointed weapons will be expelled from the premises and may be reported to the police, depending on the severity of the offense.

Rules for purchasing weapons at the event

There are stands in the dealer area that sell blunt decorative weapons made of wood or metal. The following rules apply to the sale of these weapons:

  • Weapons may only be sold to visitors of legal age. Age verification by means of valid official proof of age is therefore mandatory.
  • Purchased and still packaged weapons can be stored temporarily in the cloakrooms for a fee.
